The New Zealand Government has provided the opportunity to gain residence for those who would want to invest in New Zealand.

Investor 1 (“Investor Plus”) Category

Under this category, you are required to demonstrate that you own funds and/or assets amounting to NZD 10 million, which you will be placing in an acceptable investment in New Zealand.

Once your funds have been invested, you need to retain your investment funds in an acceptable investment(s) for three (3) years, and spend at least 44 days each year in New Zealand during the final two years of the three year investment period.

Investor 2 Category

Up to 400 applications can be approved annually under the Investor 2 Category, where the first step is to apply for an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Expressions of Interest (EOI)

  • Expressions of Interest may be entered into a Pool of EOIs if you are able to demonstrate the following:
  • Good health and of good character standing;
  • English language ability;
  • Aged 65 years or younger;
  • Three or more years of business experience;

Invitation to Apply

People whose Expressions of Interest (EOI) have been selected from the Pool may be issued with an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a resident visa under the Investor 2 Category.

Approval in principle

Once your residence application is approved in principle, you will then be given 12 months to transfer your nominated investment funds to New Zealand and place them into an acceptable investment.

Approval of Visa

Once your funds have been invested and your residence is approved, you need to retain your investment funds in an acceptable investment(s) for four years, and spend at least 146 days each year in New Zealand in years two, three and four of your four-year investment period.
